The yogic diet in the Sivananda tradition is not only vegetarian (including no eggs) but also recommends avoiding alcohol, caffeine, onions, garlic, mushrooms, very spicy food, processed and stale food. These foods are seen as either tamasic (creating heaviness and dullness), rajasic (overstimulating and creating restlessness in body and mind), or both.
In our yogic lifestyle, we try to keep our diet sattvic, food that is full of prana, life force and nourishes the body and the mind. Pure and nutritious food that keeps the body healthy and helps the mind to become calm and steady for meditation.
I think it’s most important to listen to your body and eat what makes you feel good but it’s an interesting diet to try and for the purpose of these yogic recipes I will stick to these guidelines. Also most recipes will be vegan and there are a lot of gluten-free options as well.
